Inside, the immense circular space is lit solely by the light seeping through the 27-foot oculus opening at the center of the dome, thus making it the first building to favor the interior. Other than mounting a frieze of stucco decoration late in the Renaissance period, the building remains entirely true to its original form with its colored marble walls and pairs of columns that emphasize the immensity of its rotunda.
