Summer access and how to get there
Maps to Schwyz Stoosbahn. Ride the Stoosbahn funicular from Schwyz (Hinteres Schlattli) to Stoos. It's the world’s steepest funicular and operates year-round every 30 minutes.
From Stoos village, walk 8–10 minutes to the two-part chairlift. The first lift takes you to Klingenstock, and the second lift descends from Fronalpstock. Both operate daily in summer from early May to October, typically between 9:00 and 16:00 (later in peak season).
Tickets are purchased in Stoos. If you have a Swiss Travel Pass, the funicular is covered, but chairlifts are extra.
NOTE: lift closes at 4pm in summer SO DON'T BE LATE (like we were) if you do miss the last gondola, you can still hike the trail up to Fronalpstok. It's about a 2 hour hike from Stoos Village
Suggested plan
Arrive in Stoos before 10:00 to avoid crowds.
Option A: Take the chairlift to Klingenstock, hike the ridge to Fronalpstock, and descend via the chairlift
Option B: Hike the full ridge without lifts (adds ~600 m extra elevation gain)
Enjoy lunch or drinks at the Fronalpstock restaurant with panoramic views
BONUS: stay at the Fonalpstock Hotel so you can catch a glowy sunrise in the morning.
