Takayama Old Town is an area in Takayama that has preserved its historic buildings and streets from the feudal era and is also often called "Little Kyoto". You can stroll through Sannomachi Street, lined with old homes, shops, cafes, and sake breweries that have been around for centuries. You can also peek inside some of the traditional merchant houses to see how people lived back in the day. I found some of the most beautiful and unique souvenirs here so plan enough time and money for shopping!
