Okawachiyama Village, nestled in Imari, Saga Prefecture, is a hidden gem known as the "Village of Secret Kilns." From 1675 to 1871, it was the official kiln of the Nabeshima family, producing top-notch pottery for the Imperial Court and feudal lords. The village's steep terrain and strict production techniques make it a must-visit spot for history and pottery enthusiasts alike. We went here in the late afternoon and the village was basically deserted. We loved wandering around the alleys and chatting with the locals about their pottery 🥹 be aware that most stores close down rather early around 4-5pm!
