Kasuga Taisha, Nara's most celebrated shrine, is a must-visit for anyone exploring the ancient city. Established at the same time as the capital, this Shinto shrine is dedicated to the deity protecting Nara and was once the spiritual center of the powerful Fujiwara clan. Famous for its lanterns that light up during special festivals, Kasuga Taisha is one of THE best places to snap cute pictures of the deer. Make sure to pay a small fee to enter the actual temple grounds inside, it's definitely worth it!
