The Old Tokaido Road was the main walking trail between Edo (now Tokyo) and Kyoto during the Edo era in Japan. It was a bustling route for samurai, officials, and merchants back in the day and this is one of the most preserved portion of it.

Start from Hakone-machi and end in Hatajuku and take the bus back to Hakone-Yumoto. If you do it this way around you will hike mostly down and not up (unless that's what you want 😉)
