One of the most iconic scenes in the Harry Potter movies is when the Hogwarts Express goes across the rail bridge. The scene is filmed in the Glenfinnan Viaduct. The Glenfinnan Viaduct is one of the most famous Harry Potter filming locations in Scotland. The most famous scene featuring this viaduct is the flying car scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Harry and Ron are chased across the bridge by the train.

Finding the Glenfinnan Viaduct can be challenging if you do not know where you are going, so keep reading to ensure you know exactly where you need to go and when!

A few things to keep in mind when going to visit then Glenfinnan Viaduct:

  • The steam train only passes by every 3 hours. You can find the timetable for when it leaves Fort William here. Once the train has left Fort William, it usually takes about 40 minutes to reach the Glenfinnan Viaduct.

  • You will need to do a short hike to get to the views of the viaduct. It is relatively easy and only takes 10 minutes to get to a good viewpoint.

When you arrive at the destination, you will see a huge car park, this is where you want to go. However, suppose this car park is filled up (which happens during the summer). In that case, another car park at the Glenfinnan Monument Visitor Center is a National Trust Operated car park. You can find more information on that here.

You can get to the iconic view of the viaduct and Hogwarts train by going through and behind the viaduct and then up the small hill. It will take 10-15 minutes from the car park to reach the viaduct.

If you want to go on the train itself, you can as well! You can find more information on booking tickets to go on this magical ride here.

This is one of the absolute must-see Harry Potter locations in Scotland, so do not miss it!
