Without question: the Passo di Giau near Cortina is a highly frequented excursion destination. This is probably because, having reached the top of the pass at 2,236 m, you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view.

From here you can start hiking to the beautiful Baste Lake. It is a quick one hour hike right from the top of the mountain pass. I usually park my car next to the Chiesa di San Giovanni Gualberto since the trailhead is right next to it. Follow trail 436 of the Alta Via delle Dolomiti No. 1, for an hour to get to the lake.
