The three Murg lakes are embedded in a wild and romantic mountain basin. Streams, lakes, waterfalls, rock gardens and a protected Swiss stone pine forest reserve characterise this circular tour. From Murg on Walensee you can reach the starting point to Merlen by car (Bachlaui car park) or Murgsee bus. The ascent to Gspon is relatively steep and requires some fitness. After that the terrain becomes flatter. Over the Murgseefurggel you reach the Murg lakes, framed in a ring of mountains. Soon you reach the upper Murgsee with the Murgseehütte, which owes its origin to the former ore mining. Pass the smaller, middle Murgsee and head out of the valley. Looking back, you can see the waterfall that cascades down to the lower Murgsee. The lower Murgsee is located in a nature reserve with an ancient stand of Swiss stone pines. Via Alp Guflen and Alp Mornen you reach the starting point again.

Photography tips: The lakes offer great places for some reflection shots. Just keep in mind to be early since also here it gets windier towards noon. On the descent you see the Ruchen peak in the backgound which offers you a cool panorama to shoot. Also the bridge later on is lovely for some photos. And not to mention all the cows you'll meet on the way down :D
