This is the pearl of Appenzell and maybe one of the most photographed lakes in Switzerland next to Riffelsee. The Seealpsee is a lake at 1,143 m.a.s.l. in the Alpstein. The idyllic location, the clean water and two mountain inns make Seealpsee one of the most popular excursion destinations in the Alpstein region. The Seealpsee can be reached in about 50 minutes on foot from Wasserauen, the terminus of the Appenzell cableways, on a steep, asphalted path. A non-asphalted, somewhat longer hiking trail leads from Wasserauen over the south-eastern side of the valley (Hüttentobel) to Seealpsee.

I always did the asphalted trail since I just wanted to be as fast as possible at the lake. Of course once there you have many possibilities to continue hiking but also just rest at the lake or walk around it.

Photography tips: When you arrive at the lake you just walk towards the restaurant where you find the famous boat. if you cross the outside sitting area you can reach the other famous spot with the prime view (see my photo).
