Mount Pilatus is one of the most famous mountains in Switzerland. This is due to the fact that it's the "Hausberg" of Lucerne, what means it's the city's "home-mountain". But this is not the only reason: The views are unforgettable (also during the journey to and from it). There are two transport connections to the top and we suggest you this tour: Start at Alpnachstad and enjoy the 30 minutes long funicular railway ride to the top, while the environment gets more alpine and rough with every meter. It is the steepest funicular railway in the world (46%!). At the top, we propose you explore the little peak in the east (called "Esel"), before you explore the western one during sunset - like this, you maybe get a view like the one on our first photo in the set. If you want to stay on the mountain for the night, there is the Hotel Pilatus Kulm we also stayed in once. To head down again, take the cable car to Kriens/Lucerne an enjoy the views while going down. Tip: There's an interesting chapel if you look west in the upper part of the cable car.
