You don't need to speak Swiss German to visit Switzerland - people understand standard German (TV, Books,... are in German) and many speak English. But learning a few local words always gets a smile 😊

👋 Grüezi (Hallo) = Hello

👋 Hoi (Hallo) = Hi

🙏 Merci (Danke) = Thanks

🙏 Danke (Danke) = Thank you

😊 Bitte (Bitte) = Please / You're welcome

👋 Tschüss (Auf Wiedersehen / Tschüss) = Goodbye

Wie gaht's? (Wie geht's?) = How are you?

😊 Guet (Gut) = Good

En Kafi, bitte (Einen Kaffee, bitte) = A coffee, please

🍺 Es Bier, bitte (Ein Bier, bitte) = A beer, please

💰 Was choschtet das? (Was kostet das?) = How much does this cost?

🚻 Wo isch d'Toilette? (Wo ist die Toilette?) = Where is the toilet?

🚆 Bahnhof (Bahnhof) = Train station

👍 Tiptop! (Perfekt!) = Great! / Perfect!

😂 Äs bitzli (Ein bisschen) = A little bit

😋 En Guete! (Guten Appetit!) = Enjoy your meal!

🍻 Proscht! (Prost!) = Cheers!

If you want to impress a Swiss Local, learn this:

📦Chuchichästli (Küchenschrank) = kitchen cupboard

Pronounce like that: Khu-khi-khesh-tli (Chu-chi-chäscht-li)

💡 Local tip: If you only learn two Swiss German words, make them "Grüezi" and "Merci." You'll hear them everywhere and locals will appreciate the effort.
