Ah, Mount Amos is such a fun and exhilarating hike, definitely one to consider for your adventure! This thrilling 4-kilometer out-and-back trail delivers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Freycinet Peninsula and Wineglass Bay.
Be prepared: this hike is not for the faint of heart. It’s a challenging climb that requires some rock scrambling, so sturdy footwear and a good sense of adventure are essential. While the ascent is steep and demanding, it’s only about 2 kilometers to the summit, and with a bit of persistence and a few breaks, I think most people can tackle it. I saw hikers of all ages, from kids to older folks, so don’t be discouraged by the warning signs at the trailhead. Just take your time, pace yourself, and you’ll do great.
The rocky terrain can be slippery, especially if it’s wet, so it's best to avoid the hike if it’s raining. However, on a clear day, the effort is absolutely worth it. The views from the top are stunning, offering a spectacular vantage point over the Freycinet Peninsula and the iconic Wineglass Bay. As you make your way back down, take your time it's easy to slip on the descent. In total, it took me about 1 hour to get up and 45 minutes to get down. I did the hike in the middle of the day, but it's perfect for sunrise if you’re an early riser. I had originally planned to catch the sunrise, but I ended up snoozing instead, oops!
If you’re up for a bit of a scramble and the weather is on your side, Mount Amos is a must-do hike that promises an unforgettable experience. Enjoy the adventure and those incredible views!
