Cape Palliser Lighthouse is one of those spots that feels like it's on the edge of the world, literally it’s at the southern tip of the North Island. Standing tall at 18 meters, it’s been guiding ships safely since 1897. The drive there is a treat, too, as you wind along a stunning coastline where you might even spot seals or dolphins frolicking in the water. The last few kilometers involve a thin dirt road though, so take it slow and keep an eye out for any oncoming traffic. 

Once you get to the lighthouse, you’ll find it perched up on a rocky hill, offering some lovely views of the coastline. You can then walk up the 300-step staircase to get even closer to the lighthouse for those perfect photo ops. And trust me, it's definitely a photographer's dream, especially when the sun’s out. The view of the striped lighthouse against the backdrop of the sea is absolutely beautiful.
