Vodopád

Zpráva od Cassadvantures

This is the perfect waterfall to waltz over to and be a fairy. Devils Punchbowl in Arthur’s Pass is such a magical spot,  both the waterfall and the trail leading to it have a real enchanted forest vibe.

From the car park, it’s a short and sweet 1.9 km return walk. It does have a few stairs, but nothing too wild. Early on, you’ll cross two bridges, and if you’re keen on a freezing cold dip in that classic bright blue alpine water, I’d recommend the little pool under the second bridge. That’s where I swam on the way back, and it was icy but so refreshing.

The main trail leads to a viewing platform where you’ll get an unreal look at the 131-metre waterfall tumbling down the cliffs in front of you. From here, if you’re up for a bit more adventure, you can keep going. There are no official signs saying not to, but you do need to step over or duck under the railing (do this at your own risk). On the right-hand side of the platform, there’s a bit of a worn path that’ll take you closer to the base of the falls, it’s maybe 100 to 200 metres further. The sheer size and thunderous sound of the waterfall up close is wild. Also, people at the viewing platform can’t see you down there, so it’s a great little private spot for a swim or to just sit and take it all in.

If you can, visit in the afternoon. The sun doesn’t hit the falls until it gets over the mountain behind, so mornings can be a bit shadowy.
