Grand Canyon Track

The Grand Canyon Track is a 6.3 kilometre bushwalking loop through rainforest and sandstone gorge. It is one of the oldest and most scenic trails in the Blue Mountains. Expect waterfalls, fern-covered cliffs, narrow paths, and cool shade for most of the walk. It usually takes three to four hours to complete.

The trail begins and ends on Evans Lookout Road near Blackheath. There are three official parking areas to choose from. First is Neates Glen, then the Grand Canyon Carpark, and finally Evans Lookout at the very end of the road.

Most people start the hike at Neates Glen and walk in a counterclockwise direction. This route gives a more gradual descent into the canyon and saves the best lookout views for the end. No matter which trailhead you start from, you will need to walk 1.4 kilometres along Evans Lookout Road to complete the loop.

The trail includes stone steps, uneven surfaces, narrow ledges, and sections that stay damp. Good shoes are essential. The path is not suitable for strollers or casual walkers. There are no toilets or water stations at the start or along the way. It can get muddy after rain but that is also when the waterfalls look their best.

There is very little signage once you are inside the canyon and limited mobile reception. The path is well worn but you still need to pay attention. This trail is best for people with moderate fitness who are comfortable with bushwalking.
