Stuðlagil Canyon can be found near Jokuldalur in East Iceland. With its stunning basalt rock columns and striking blue-green glacial river, it's one of the most impressive natural attractions found in the country. The area was originally inhospitable due to water levels that were too powerful, but recent additions like the hydroelectric power plant Karahnjukavirkjun have calmed the river and allowed travellers to explore this remarkable canyon. There are plenty of trails around the area and visitors should keep an eye out for wildlife such as pink-footed geese. An exploration of Studlagil is like travelling back in time and taking in some of the best panoramas Iceland has to offer!
