Ibón de Plan, also known as Basa de la Mora, is a glacial lake located, as its name indicates, in Plan, a town situated in the Gistaín Valley, in the Sobrarbe region. 🏞️

Ibón de Plan is considered one of the most impressive glacial lakes in the Aragonese Pyrenees, as it is located at almost 1,910 meters, nestled amidst stunning mountains dotted with black and green pine trees. It offers incredible views of the Pyrenees, along with abundant vegetation. 🌲🏔️

An ibón is a high-mountain lake, similar to a glacier, which is why it is known as a glacier lake. However, the people of Aragon adopted the name "ibón" to refer to them. ❄️

An ideal route for families

This route is perfect for families, although the date of the hike should be taken into account. It is an area where it tends to be cold and snowy until late spring, so it is advisable to do it in the summer months. 🚶‍♂️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

There are three different routes to reach Ibón de Plan, although the difficulty varies depending on the route you choose. First, there is the most difficult route. You have to walk from the tail of the Plan reservoir and ascend to the ibón. It takes about three hours and has an elevation gain of 960 meters. ⛰️

The second option is also challenging; you have to walk from Saravillo through the GR-15 trail. It has a greater distance but with a lower elevation gain. 🏞️

However, this last option is the route recommended by hikers who have done this hike. It is the simplest and most comfortable. It starts from Aínsa, where you have to take the A-138 road towards Bielsa (France). 🚗

Once past the town of Lafortunada and before reaching Bielsa, you have to take the detour to Plan on the A-2609 road. It is about five kilometers until you reach Saravillo. You have to cross the town, and at the end, you will find a forest track with signs indicating the direction of the ibón. Keep moving forward until you reach a meadow with a small shelter. 🌳🏕️

In this meadow, you can park your car all day. It costs €3. 💶

Here begins the journey on foot to Ibón de Plan, which takes about 20 minutes and covers 1.5 kilometers. Once at the ibón, you can enjoy wonderful views of the Aragonese Pyrenees. This stretch is easy to do, with hardly any elevation gain, making it suitable for children. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and bring water for hydration. 🥾💧📸
