When staying at Old Fargie Lodge, Glenfarg I walked upto this fab wee castle. Tucked away in the Perthshire hills, Balvaird Castle is a real local treasure. I found it pretty spooky on a windy evening so there are definitely still some Murray ghosts lurking around the building!!

You'll find this remarkably complete 15th-century tower house after a short, 10-minute uphill walk from the road, where you can usually find a spot to park. The exterior is free to explore year-round, and the peaceful atmosphere and fantastic views make it a perfect spot to connect with Scotland's past without the usual crowds.
