🚗 Driving Tips

• Right side of the road.

• Manual cars are the most common, but automatics exist.

• In cities: some streets are tiny, you've got double lane avenues too. Sometimes, you'll find that as you leave the city, you enter the suburbs that are located on a hill so be mindful of whoever is coming the other way.

• Beware of bold drivers, rule-bending and lots of improvisation.

• In the countryside, you'll come across sheeps, cows, sometimes horses… honestly, it’s adorable but be careful.

• Speed traps happen are really everywhere. Some can be detected by your maps app and some are not, respect the speed limits.

• In winter, roads can get icy but rental cars should always come with winter tires so make sure to check that.

• Gas stations? Everywhere. Even where you least expect them, in the middle of a village.

• We also have highways with toll systems, payable by cash or card.

• Stick to main roads unless you're adventurous or in a 4x4.

• Google Maps most of the time but if a road looks like it leads to Narnia, believe your eyes.

• Border-crossing:

  - When renting a car in BiH and crossing a border, you will need your passport, your driver's license, car rental contract and the green card provided by the rental company.

  - You must inform the rental company that you plan to cross a border before you pick it up.

  - The rental company will likely charge a cross-border fee for taking the car into another country, which is not a scam but a charge for their authorization and the necessary insurance documents.

Also, we think that getting a car and driving around is the best option (and not so expensive) for a family. We always recommend starting your trip in either the north or south of the country and drive the opposite to cover as much as possible on the way, making stops in between as there is so much to visit and discover from point A to point B.
