The best-kept secret ever!!!
The Fig Tree Cave is one of those places you’ll feel like a total explorer discovering - it’s an adventure from start to finish. To find it, park at the Minilya info centre, then you’ll need to wander through the dry shrubbery (keep an eye out for the tree where the pin is - don’t stress, you’ll know it when you see it). From there, you’ll spot the cave entrance, and that’s where the fun really begins.
As you descend into the cave, the air gets cooler, the light fades, and you’ll probably notice a few old millipedes crawling about—kind of creepy, but cool. It’s a bit wet down there, especially as you go deeper, so ditch the shoes, wear your swimmers, and get ready to get a little soggy.
Definitely bring a head torch—trust me, you’ll want your hands free to steady yourself. If you’re stuck, your iPhone torch will do, but it’s not ideal. And don’t leave it too late in the day—it gets dark, and you do not want to be climbing out of there in pitch black.
Proceed at your own risk, but if you’re up for an adventure, this hidden spot is so worth it. It’s like stepping into the centre of the world!
