Tumpak Sewu is a dramatic, curtain-style waterfall best seen either from the rim viewpoint or by hiking down into the canyon for a jaw-dropping close-up. Expect a steep, muddy descent with uneven stone steps and at least one river crossing, so wear grippy shoes that can get wet, bring a dry bag or waterproof camera cover, and carry cash for parking and a possible local guide. Go early for softer light and fewer people, and avoid the lower trek after heavy rain because currents and slippery rocks make it risky. Facilities are basic at the parking area and phone signal can be spotty, so plan for 2 to 4 hours total and pack water and insect repellent.
