🌊 Glacier River by the Ocean
🗺️ How to Get There:
From Route 1, just before the turnoff to Kvíárjökull (if heading east), take any of the gravel tracks that lead right (south) toward the ocean. These are farm or service roads, but they’re open for public access, just drive respectfully. You don’t need to reach the coast. Stop and launch the drone midway, as the glacial river becomes visible between you and the ocean. The terrain is flat and open, making flying safe with no wind.
📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
May through September is best for weather and visibility.
Try to visit on calm, windless days, especially in the morning or late evening for smooth water textures. Works even in overcast conditions, especially for graphic compositions.
📸 Photography Tips
Best time of day:
Golden hour or overcast days to reduce harsh contrast
Mid-morning also works well when flying top-down
Avoid strong wind, this is an exposed coastal area
Recommended gear:
Drone is essential to reveal the abstract shapes and water-carved lines
Spare batteries highly recommended, you’ll want to explore the area
ND filters help when shooting video or in bright summer light
Composition ideas:
Go top-down to capture the zigzagging geometry of the river
Frame the river snaking parallel to the ocean for layered compositions
