The Squero di San Trovaso is one of the oldest and most traditional boatyards in Venice, dating back to the 17th century. It's located in the Dorsoduro district, near the Church of San Trovaso. This historic 'squero' is where gondolas and other traditional Venetian boats are still handcrafted and repaired by skilled artisans.
It's not open to the public, however, you can admire it from across the canal and sometimes catch a glimpse of the craftsmen at work.
Visiting this area offers a rare and authentic look into Venice’s maritime heritage, an essential stop for anyone interested in the city’s history beyond the tourist crowds.
Also, just in front of the squero, you'll find one of the best 'bacaro' in Venice (traditional Venetian bar), called Osteria al Squero.
