Rincón’s identity is inseparable from surfing. It's one of the top surf destinations in the entire Atlantic and Caribbean basin.
Rincón has a remarkable variety of surf breaks strung along its coastline, catering to all levels.
Rincón is famous throughout Puerto Rico for producing some of the most spectacular sunsets anywhere on the island.
Rincón has a wonderfully eclectic, bohemian character. It’s home to a significant expat community — particularly Americans and Europeans who came for a surf trip and decided to stay permanently — which gives the town a multicultural, open, and creative energy. English is widely spoken, and the town has a relaxed, anything-goes atmosphere that feels distinct from the rest of Puerto Rico.
The food scene in Rincón punches well above its small-town size. From beachside shacks serving fresh fish tacos and cold Medalla beers, to surprisingly sophisticated restaurants with ocean views, there’s something for every appetite. The bar scene is lively but mellow — beach bars, open-air terraces, and surf-themed spots where the music plays late and the crowd is friendly.
From roughly January through March, humpback whales migrate through the waters off Rincón’s coast, making it one of the best whale-watching destinations in the Caribbean. Boats go out regularly during this season, and on calm days whales can sometimes even be spotted from shore.
What makes Rincón truly special is its sense of community. It’s a small town where people know each other, where surfers share waves and stories, where local events and festivals bring everyone together. There’s a warmth and authenticity here that’s easy to fall in love with.
