Seven kilometres along the 309 Road, Waiau Falls is easily viewed from the roadside and sits within beautiful native bush, with a well-known swimming hole below (we recommend going for a dip!

Another kilometre up the road, a walking track leads to an impressive stand of mature kauri. One standout is a rare “Siamese” kauri that splits into two trunks near the base 🌳 The walk is about 30 minutes return!

Parking at the Waiau Kauri Grove Walk is limited. Overflow parking is available at the Waiau Falls Track car park, located 600 m northwest along the 309 Road.

If using this option, you’ll need to walk along a gravel road with blind corners to reach the track entrance. Keep to the edge of the road, watch for traffic!
