The Milford Foreshore Walk is one of the most popular walks in Milford Sound. It’s flat, very easy, and offers some of the most iconic views in Fiordland National Park.
Track overview
Difficulty: Flat and easy
Length: 1km loop
Time: 20-30 minutes, depending on how often you stop to take photos
The track starts at the carpark opposite Milford Sound Café. Paid parking is available here, but it's pricey at $10 per hour.
From the carpark, you’ll wander through beautiful beech forest and past the foreshore, where you'll see gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains and the famous Milford Sound Swing, which is one of the most photographed places in the whole country.
If you’re staying at Milford Sound Lodge (you should!), you can walk to the start of the track from the back of their campground - you’ll need to add approximately 30 minutes to your walking time.
The best time to go
The walk is beautiful at any time of the day, but it’s worth noting that high tide gives you the best chance to see perfect mirror-like reflections on the water. I recommend coming here for sunrise or sunset and combining your trip with the Milford Sound Lookout Track.
