If you're craving fresh air and waterfalls, Hunua Falls Regional Park is the perfect place to come and escape the hustle and bustle of Auckland City.

The park is around 50 minutes from the CBD and is home to waterfalls, walking tracks and more native bush than you can begin to imagine! The crown jewel of the park is Hunua Falls, a 30m waterfall fed by the Wairoa River. The falls themselves are very easy to get to. You can reach them in under 5–10 minutes from the carpark, where you'll find a large viewing area and some grassy patches perfect for a picnic. If you’re visiting in the summer, you’ll often find a food stall/ice cream van in the carpark!

How to get there

Hunua Falls is located southeast of Auckland. Hunua Falls is located southeast of Auckland. Take the Southern Motorway (State Highway 1) from the city centre and drive towards Papakura. Then follow Hunua Road, which will lead you directly to the falls. The drive is straightforward and well-signposted, so you shouldn’t get lost. Otherwise, just put “Hunua Falls” into Google Maps, which will take you to the large free car park.
