The Floe Lake Trail is both challenging and rewarding, with the primary destination being a spectacular turquoise coloured lake surrounded by rugged mountains.
The journey to the lake is a scenic experience as well, with the path offering sweeping vistas of surrounding mountains, a tumbling creek and many wildflowers.
The trail is uphill almost the entire way to the lake, with 770m of elevation gain in just over 10km. Allow 7 to 9 hours for the 20km return trip. It is possible to camp at the lake with a reservation - more details in this hiking guide.
A Parks Canada parks pass is required to explore Kootenay National Park ($22/day for a vehicle of up to 7 people).
