Estacion Retiro - Línea Mitre is one of many train stations in Buenos Aires but is likely the only one you'll need. With this station you can take the train into Palermo, Belgrano (Barrio Chino), and further into the suburbs like San Isidro and all the way to Tigre.

There are three lines here and all are "the Mitre line" but different branches, call ramales.

  • Ramal Mitre - This line will take you to Palermo, Belgrano R, and ends in Olivos. At this Olivos terminal you can cross the street to connect to the Tren de la Costa.

  • Ramal Suarez - This line follows the same tracks as Mitre until Belgrano R, after this station is branches off to the west. I don't recommend taking this line past Drago station.

  • Tigre - This branch follows it's own path closer to the river. Also stopping in Palermo and Belgrano, with one stop at Belgrano C for Barrio Chino. You can take this train to San Isidro and Tigre. Read this Tigre guide to plan a DIY day trip this way.

Tickets are very cheap but you will need a SUBE transportation card to use the train. Conveniently, the ANSES office right here in the station (on the far left if you are facing the tracks) sells SUBE cards and registers them for you to receive discounts. Bring your passport for this (cautiously, this isn't the safest area, hide it close to your body).
