What you'll do
This 3-day itinerary will give you a taste of Slovenia's natural beauty. We recommend using Bled as a home base to explore and renting a car at Ljubljana airport for your trip. While you won't need a car when exploring Bled on day 1, you will want one on days 2 and 3!
Day 1
Spend your first full day in Slovenia exploring Bled! In the morning, hike to two of the best viewpoints in Bled - Ojstrica Viewpoint and Mala Osojnica. Grab lunch at Lounge Bar Plaza and then head to Cafe Belvedere for dessert (this is the spot to try the famous Bled cream cake) and more stunning views. Later in the afternoon, rent a boat and row to Bled Island. Finish your day with a delicious pizza dinner at Pizzeria Rustika.
Lake Bled
area
Iconic vacation destination with fairytale setting
Lake Bled is one of the most iconic places in Slovenia, with a fairytale island in the middle of the lake and a castle perched on a cliff above. You can take a traditional wooden pletna boat out to the island to visit the church, or just walk around the lake and take in the views. It’s a mix of natural beauty and historic charm, and would make a great home base to explore other parts of Slovenia like Triglav National Park and Lake Bohinj. While you're there, make sure to try a slice of the famous Bled cream cake!
Ojstrica Viewpoint
Hike
Famous Lake Bled viewpoint
Ojstrica is a classic viewpoint overlooking Lake Bled, known for its iconic postcard views of the lake, the island, and the castle. The hike to the lookout takes about 20 minutes and includes some steep sections. While the viewpoint is not as high or expansive as Mala Osojnica, it still offers one of the best spots to capture stunning photos, especially during sunrise or sunset.
Mala Osojnica
Hike
Scenic viewpoint with stunning views
Mala Osojnica is a popular viewpoint near Lake Bled that delivers some of the best panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The hike up is about 1.5 kilometers one way with some steep sections, but it’s worth it for the view! This viewpoint sits higher than the more famous Ojstrica lookout, giving you a wider, more dramatic perspective. Hike this during the day for the perfect blue water color or for sunrise or sunset for magical lighting.
Lounge bar Plaža
bar
Casual outdoor bar with views of Lake Bled
Lounge Bar Plaža in Bled is a great chill spot to grab a drink and some tasty snacks while admiring views of Bled’s iconic lake. It's a perfect place to unwind after a busy day of exploring. We'd recommend visiting for happy hour!
Café Belvedere
kavárna
Historic café with stunning views
Café Belvedere quickly became one of our favorite spots in Bled—we actually came here twice because the view of the lake and island is just that good! It’s tucked away enough that it never felt crowded, which made it the perfect place to relax with a coffee, Aperol Spritz and slice of famous Lake Bled Cream Cake. Prices are on the higher end, but you’re paying for the setting, and in our opinion, it’s totally worth it.
Rent A Boat
aktivita
Rent a boat to row to Bled Island
This is one of a few different places you can rent a boat and row to Bled Island. The well-maintained boats make it easy to row to the island in about 10 minutes. Rates generally range from 10-20 euro per hour for a boat rental depending on which location you rent your boat from. If rowing yourself isn't your thing, you can also have an oarsman take you there on a Pletna boat!
Bled Island
Sightseeing
Magical island in Slovenia
Bled Island is that postcard-perfect little island right in the middle of Lake Bled, and it honestly feels like something out of a storybook. The main draw is the Church of the Assumption with its famous wishing bell- you can even give it a ring while you’re there! To access the island, you'll need to take a traditional Pletna boat or rent a rowboat and paddle yourself over. This is a can't-miss experience if you're visiting Bled!
Bled Castle
muzeum
Medieval gem with stunning views
Bled Castle sits high above the lake and is one of the most iconic views in Slovenia. It's the oldest castle in the country, and while the history is interesting, another reason to visit is for the unbeatable view over Lake Bled. You’ll find a small museum, a wine cellar, and even a chapel with some impressive frescoes—but honestly, just wandering the grounds and soaking in the scenery makes it worth the stop.
Pizzeria Rustika
restaurace
Wonderful pizzeria with delicious brick-oven pizzas
Pizzeria Rustika was hands down our favorite meal in Bled. Their pizzas are fantastic and made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. It does get pretty busy on weekends, so be prepared for a little wait. We recommend grabbing a seat outside to soak up the atmosphere while you eat.
