We’ve visited a lot of historic sites, but few left us as awestruck as the Ben Youssef Medersa. Tucked away in the heart of the Marrakech medina, this former Islamic college is one of those spots where you walk in and instantly feel like you've stepped into another era.

Built in the 16th century, this place isn’t just beautiful—it’s ridiculously detailed. Every corner is covered in handcrafted zellige tiles, cedar wood carvings, and Arabic calligraphy so precise it’s hard to believe it was done by hand.

What we loved most was how peaceful it felt. Despite being close to the chaos of the souks, inside the medersa it was quiet, cool, and almost meditative. You can wander through the student dorms, stand in the center courtyard, and imagine what life was like for scholars studying here centuries ago. There’s a real sense of history—like the walls have stories to tell.

It’s also incredibly photogenic (yes, it’s one of those spots that actually looks better in person), and at just a few euros to enter, it's one of the best budget-friendly things to do in Marrakech.
