Thethi (42.395383 19.774001) is a renowned mountain village in the Albanian Alps. Situated in the Shkodër Region in northern Albania, Thethi is surrounded by dramatic peaks and pristine landscapes. It is widely regarded as one of the country's premier hiking destinations. The region is famous for its spectacular trails and offers a wide range of outdoor activities. Here is a brief historical overview: The mountain village first appeared in Ottoman records between the 15th and 16th centuries. In 1688, Italian Franciscan friar, geographer, and cosmographer Vincenzo Maria Coronelli depicted the mountain village on a map for the first time. In the early 1850s, Johann Georg von Hahn, an Austrian diplomat, linguist, and founder of Albanology, traveled through the region. Around 1892, Franciscan missionaries arrived with the support of the local Catholic population and built a church. The valley has been accessible since a road was built in 1936. The Hotel Turistik i Thethi, the first small mountain hotel, was built in 1940, marking the beginning of mountain tourism in the area. However, due to poor road conditions, Thethi remained difficult to reach until the early 2000s. During the communist era, a labor camp was established where undesirable individuals were imprisoned and forced to work.

In 2010, Thethi had only 130 guest beds available. The road from Shkodër via Qafa e Thorës (Thorë Pass) to Thethi was fully paved in 2021. Since then, tourism has experienced rapid growth. By 2030, the number of guest beds is expected to exceed 1,500. The area's most impressive attractions include Grunas Waterfall, the Blue Eye, and the Church of Thethi.
