Why Visit
Leqet e Hotit quickly became one of the most beautiful drives I’ve done in Albania. The road winds dramatically down the mountainside, with tight switchbacks that offer increasingly epic views as you drive down.
At the top, you’ll find a panoramic lookout that’s 100% worth pulling over for. From here, you can see the valley far below and the rugged northern mountains stretching out in every direction. There’s also a small roadside café at the top: perfect for a quick coffee while you soak it all in.
How to Get There
Leqet e Hotit is located in Malësia e Madhe, not far from the town of Hani i Hotit. It’s a key part of the route if you’re heading toward Lëpushë or Vermosh from Shkodër. The road is fully paved, but very winding: so take your time and enjoy the drive.
What to Expect
A series of tight, scenic switchbacks.
Panoramic viewpoint at the summit (don’t skip it).
A little café at the top for drinks and a quick break.
Incredible views of Albania’s northern valleys and peaks.
Good to Know
Best driven during spring, summer, or early fall
Could be dangerous in winter if there’s snow or ice, definitely avoid during freezing conditions
Combine it with a road trip to Lëpushë, Vermosh, and Tamarë.
The entire route from Leqet e Hotit onward is stunning, with peaceful valleys and untouched alpine scenery.
