This is one of the most unique historic sites in Finland, offering a glimpse into the country’s industrial past. Verla Groundwood and Board Mill is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved paper mills in the world.

The entire mill area has been left almost exactly as it was when production stopped in the 1960s. You can only visit the interior on a guided tour, which is part of the experience, walking through the original machinery and learning how paper was produced here over a century ago.

Guided tours run regularly during the summer season, usually between 10–18, and tickets are typically around 10–15 €for adults. The surrounding village is also worth exploring, with red wooden buildings, a peaceful riverside setting, and small cafés that make it an easy place to spend a few hours.
