Seurasaari Island is without question one of my favorite places in Helsinki, and also the place where my wildlife photography journey truly began. Located just a short distance from the city center and connected to the mainland by a small wooden bridge, Seurasaari feels like a different world the moment you step onto the island.

Visit on an early summer morning and you quickly understand why this place is so special. The island is home to foxes, birds and countless red squirrels, often moving freely along the forest paths and shoreline. Light filters beautifully through the old trees, making Seurasaari a perfect location for a slow wildlife and landscape photography walk when you are in Helsinki.

The island offers a mix of coastal views, dense forest, rocky shores, and traditional Finnish scenery, including historic wooden buildings from different parts of Finland. It is easy to forget you are still in a capital city.

During winter, Seurasaari transforms completely. Fresh snow covers the trails, and the quiet atmosphere makes it one of the best places in Helsinki to photograph squirrels, small birds, and minimalist winter landscapes.
