Peru Unlocked, Peru

Peru has distinct regions—coastal, Andean, and Amazonian—each with its own weather patterns, so timing depends on where you're headed. The dry season (May to September) is the best time to visit if you're planning to explore the Andes or trek to Machu Picchu. During these months, you'll find sunny skies and ideal hiking conditions, especially in Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Huaraz. However, this is also the busiest and most expensive time to go.
The rainy season (November to March) brings lush green landscapes and fewer crowds but muddy trails and potential weather-related delays, especially for treks like the Inca Trail (which is actually closed for maintenance every February). Lima, on the coast, is often gray and misty during Peru’s winter (June–August) but sees more sun during the summer months (December–March).
