Saana is the fifth highest fell in Finland, with a peak at 1029 meters.
Saana Summit trail in Lapland, Finland offers a moderately though 8.4-km out-and-back trail with a very rewarding hiking trail with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. In my opinion some of the best landscapes in Lapland. The 4 km trail takes about 3-4 hours to complete, passing through a unique forest at the start and rocky terrain before reaching the summit at 1029 m above sea level. Enjoy the midnight sun during summer nights and spot reindeer along the way.
There is only one and only route to the top of Saanatunturi, although there are two starting points. The traditional starting point is the Kilpisjärvi Hiking Center (Kilpisjärvi Retkeilykeskus a camping site with a nice sauna after the hike), from which people have set off to the top of Saana for decades.
And there is a new starting point for the Saana route can be found on Google Maps under the name Malla/Saana parking or Saanatunturi Parkkialue. There is sign posts to the trail which starts from the other side of the road.
The route has incredibly beautiful granite stairs at the beginning with a good step size. And a convenient rest room with a toilet before the stairs.
Like for all hikes in Finland, take snack, water, good shoes and warm clothes with you.
