Konttaniemi Reindeer Farm is one of the easiest ways to get close to Lapland’s most famous animals. Located just a short drive from Rovaniemi, the farm has been in the same family for generations and is still a working reindeer farm.
Visitors are welcomed with a warm introduction to reindeer herding traditions, the Sámi way of life, and how these animals are cared for through the seasons. You’ll get to feed the reindeer, hear stories from the herders, and in winter you can take a short sleigh ride through the snowy forest, a classic Lapland memory.
Inside the cozy kota hut, you’re often served warm juice, coffee, or snacks while learning about the deep connection between reindeer and the people of the north. The visit is small-scale and personal, making it feel more like meeting locals than joining a big tour.
Tip: Book early in winter as reindeer sleigh rides are very popular and group sizes are limited. In summer, visits focus more on herding traditions, feeding the reindeer, and learning about their role in Sámi culture.
