The “Shoes on the Danube Bank” is a poignant and iconic memorial in Budapest. Installed along the riverbank near the Hungarian Parliament, this moving art installation features 60 pairs of iron shoes representing Jews who were ordered to remove their shoes before being shot into the Danube during World War II. Walking the river promenade between the Parliament and the Chain Bridge, visitors can reflect on the history and significance of this powerful tribute. It’s a meaningful cultural stop that combines history, reflection, and scenic views of the river and city skyline.
