Moon Hill, one of Yangshuo's postcard spots.
About Moon Hill
So named because the archway well, looks like a half moon shape, moon hill is a viewpoint from which you can see most of the county and the karst hills below.
There's about 800 steps up to the viewing platform so lace up and go!
The secret view of Moon Hill
Ok, so this one is not for the faint-hearted and I only recommend it to people who are confident hikers and are good with heights etc, go at your own risk.. Also, with the area changing quite regularly it may not be fully available when you arrive - although i hope it is...
So, when you arrive at the top, go under the archway through to the viewing platform. At the end, you should spot a very faint, almost trail.
Follow along (trying to hide from some of the other visistors as technically not allowed), and you'll end up at a rocky outcrop above the actual 'moon' archway itself. For that reason, it' recommended to aim for sunrise because you can avoid other visitors' eyes. Note, that technically the climb is not open until 7 - but a few yuan to the security guard will often let him look the other way.
Getting to Moon Hill
Moon Hill is just a few kilometres from Yangshuo town where you can rent a bicycle or an ebike - the recommended best method of transport in Yangshuo.
