Imbros Gorge is a beautiful, accessible gateway to south Crete’s wild landscape, cutting through limestone cliffs between the village of Imbros and the plains of Sfakia. Less demanding than Samaria yet just as atmospheric, it offers a gentle introduction to gorge hiking with narrow passages, dramatic rock walls, and a strong sense of movement toward the Libyan Sea. The hike is a gentle downhill walk that takes about 2 to 3 hours at a relaxed pace, making it perfect for most fitness levels.

As a local, I love Imbros for its balance — wild but welcoming, ideal for families, first-time hikers, or anyone who wants to feel Crete’s raw nature without rushing or exhaustion.

Local tip ⭐: Walk top to bottom (Imbros → Komitades) and finish with lunch in Sfakia or a swim nearby; start early in summer for cooler temperatures.

Eco note 🌿Imbros is a living natural corridor — stay on the marked path, don’t remove stones or plants, carry out all rubbish, and keep noise low so the gorge remains a place of calm and respect.
