The Gotthard Panorama Express is a scenic journey that connects the central Swiss city of Lucerne to the Italian-speaking city of Lugano in Ticino. The trip combines two memorable experiences: a relaxing boat ride across Lake Lucerne and a panoramic train ride in 1st Class along the historic Gotthard railway line. This route, which takes approximately 5.5 hours, offers a mix of natural beauty and historical significance, including the engineering marvel of the Gotthard Tunnel, inaugurated in 1882.

If you travel from Lucerne to Lucano, the journey begins with a boat ride from Lucerne to Flüelen. On this ride, you can enjoy views of iconic landmarks such as the Rütli Meadow and the Tell Chapel. From Flüelen, you board the panoramic train, which travels through picturesque valleys, spiraling tunnels, and mountain passes. A highlight of the train ride is seeing the Wassen Church three times from different angles due to the clever design of the railway’s loops.
