Bras Rouge is a dramatic waterfall hidden in a steep gorge near Cilaos, fed by mountain streams that carve through red volcanic rock. The trail begins from the Thermes de Cilaos and winds through pine forests, past small basins and viewpoints, until it drops into the canyon where the falls come into view. The final descent is steep and rocky, but manageable with proper shoes.

The falls themselves are a series of cascades tumbling into natural basins, surrounded by cliffs and boulders shaped by centuries of erosion. It’s a popular picnic spot for locals, especially on weekends, and early morning visits often mean having the whole place to yourself. Swimming is possible, but only when the water is low and calm.

👉 Pack your lunch and bring walking sticks if you’re unsure on uneven ground. Guava trees line the early part of the trail in season.
