If you ever find yourself near Lake Wales and craving a slower, more peaceful Florida day, Bok Tower Gardens is a must-visit. I always tell people to give themselves a relaxed half day here — this isn’t a rush-through kind of place.
Spend your time wandering the beautifully landscaped gardens, listening to live carillon music drifting from the Singing Tower, and hopping onto a few of the easy nature trails. It’s about an hour from Tampa or Orlando, admission is reasonable, parking is free, and there’s a visitor center with a museum, café, and gift shop when you need a break. Most paths are paved and largely wheelchair accessible, which makes this an easy, comfortable visit — just wear good walking shoes, bring water, and don’t forget sun protection. Morning visits are my favorite to beat the heat, or time it around one of the daily carillon concerts. And bring your camera — it’s stunning.
Fall and winter are ideal for cooler temps, but spring is magical when everything is in bloom.
Bonus: this garden is dog friendly! Dogs welcome for $10 (leash required)
