Best Time to Visit Peru
Understanding Peru’s seasons and choosing the right time for your itinerary

Peru
Peru is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on the regions you plan to explore. Because this itinerary includes the coast, the Andes, and the Amazon, it’s helpful to understand how the seasons affect each area.
Dry Season in the Andes (May–September)
The most popular time to visit Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu is during the dry season from May through September.
During these months travelers can expect:
* Clear skies and sunny days
* Excellent conditions for hiking and exploring archaeological sites
* Cooler nights in the Andes
Because the weather is generally more predictable, this is also the busiest travel season, especially from June through August.
Shoulder Seasons (April & October)
Many experienced travelers consider April and October some of the best months to visit Peru.
During these months you’ll often find:
* Pleasant temperatures
* Fewer crowds
* Lush green landscapes following the rainy season
These months offer an excellent balance between good weather and lighter tourism.
Rainy Season in the Andes (November–March)
The Andes experience their rainy season between November and March. While rain showers are more common, travel is still possible and the scenery becomes especially vibrant.
During this time visitors may encounter:
* Afternoon rain showers
* Fewer crowds at popular sites
* Beautiful green mountain landscapes
Even in the rainy season, mornings are often clear and Machu Picchu can still be spectacular with mist drifting through the ruins.
The Amazon Climate
The Amazon near Iquitos is warm and humid throughout the year.
Rainfall varies seasonally, but wildlife viewing and river excursions operate year-round. Higher water levels during parts of the year can even allow boats to explore deeper into flooded forest areas.
A Final Tip
For most travelers visiting Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, April–October offers the most reliable weather while still allowing you to experience the diversity of Peru’s landscapes.
