Maguk Falls is a total hidden gem in Kakadu National Park, and the adventure to get there is half the fun! It’s marked as 4WD only, but we tackled it in 2WDs, took it slow, and had no dramas – just watch out for any dodgy patches.

From the car park, it’s an easy 1km walk to the falls through lush bushland and over a few rocky bits – nothing too hectic. The track itself is well-marked, and before you know it, you’re greeted by this stunning waterfall plunging into a crystal-clear pool.

We rocked up around 4 pm and had the whole place to ourselves, which made it feel even more special. Late arvo is definitely the time to go if you’re chasing some peace and quiet. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can climb up the falls on the right-hand side. It’s a bit of a scramble, but the plunge pool at the top is unreal and the views are worth the effort – just take it slow on the slippery rocks.

If you’re keen to stay longer, you can set up camp at Maguk Campground, which is super close by. It’s $10 per adult and $5 per kid per night, with basic facilities like drop toilets and plenty of shady spots. It’s such a chilled spot to hang out under the stars after a day of exploring.
