Seurasaari is one of my favorite places in Helsinki to slow down, walk in the nature and enjoy a slice of old Finland in a peaceful, green setting (or white in the winter). This charming island is home to an open-air museum where historic wooden houses, churches, and farmsteads have been brought from around the country, giving you a glimpse into rural Finnish life from past centuries. Just walk around the island and see yourself!
But what I really love about Seurasaari is that it's also a nature escape right in the city. Locals come here to walk the forest trails, feed the friendly squirrels and birds, or swim at the small beaches. You don’t even have to visit the museum to enjoy the island – the paths and shores are open to everyone, and it’s especially beautiful in summer and autumn.
Good to know: There’s a small bridge connecting the island to the mainland, and it’s easy to reach by bus, bike, or even on foot. If you're visiting in midsummer, Seurasaari is also the site of one of Helsinki’s biggest (and most atmospheric!) traditional bonfire celebrations. Highly recommended.
