Spring to Autumn (May–October): Ideal for hiking, photography, and pleasant weather.
Autumn: The forest turns into a colorful palette, offering incredible contrast with the turquoise river.
By Public Transport: Take a train to Chur, then a PostBus to Flims Waldhaus, Caumasee. From the bus stop, hike through the forest (~1 hour / 3.5 km) passing Caumasee.
By Car: Park at Flims Waldhaus (Caumasee Parking). The trail starts directly from the parking area. Parking is paid but conveniently located.
On Foot: From Caumasee, follow signs toward Conn and Il Spir, an easy and scenic forest trail suitable for most fitness levels.
Plan 2–3 hours for the round-trip hike, including photo stops and lunch.
Visit early morning or late afternoon for the best light and fewer crowds.
Bring water, sun protection, and comfortable shoes — even though the path is easy, parts can be uneven.
Have lunch at Restaurant Conn, just 5 minutes from the lookout; known for Rösti, local dishes, and homemade desserts.
For a unique perspective, take the RhB train from Ilanz to Reichenau-Tamins, which runs through the gorge.
Combine your visit with nearby Flims, Caumasee, or Crestasee for a full-day adventure.
Golden hour at Il Spir 🌅: Visit early morning or late afternoon to capture warm light on the gorge walls.
Wide-angle lens 🏞️: Perfect for capturing the depth and scale of the Rhine Gorge.
Framing with foreground 📐: Use railings, paths, or rocks to add depth to canyon shots.
Drone shots 🚁: Get dramatic aerial views of the gorge’s twists and turns (check regulations).
