When I first visited this place I just stumbled on it during a road trip. Later on, I found out that it's actually quite a popular tourist destination for those traveling from Tokyo. I visited in a later afternoon and caught the sunset over the town and it was very pretty. It also meant that there were few people and for that reason, I would recommend a visit later in the day as I found out that this place does get popular.
Ouchijuku is a charming former post town along the Aizu-Nishi Kaido trade route in Fukushima. Back in the Edo Period, this place was bustling with travelers on foot looking for food and rest. Today, it's like stepping back in time with its thatched roof buildings, shops, and traditional inns. You can try local specialties like soba noodles and roasted char fish on sticks while exploring the quaint streets.
Tip: Walk all the way to end of the end of the street and go up the stairs to get a nice elevated photo of the town at sunset.
